SIGHT SEEING
MUMBAI CITY TOUR
You depart by coach to see some of the distinct landmarks the city is famous for, e.g., Dhobi Ghat - an open-air laundry, which is still popular with the citizens despite the advent of the modern washing machine, Mani Bhavan- the residence of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi when he stayed in Mumbai. Thereafter proceed to visit the beautiful Jain temple, then your next stop will be a visit to Hanging Gardens and the Kamla Nehru Park from where you can get an excellent view of the city.

Thereafter proceed to stretch of Marine Drive popularly known as the Queen's Necklace, passing by various monuments built during the British era, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (Victoria Terminus), Mumbai University, Rajabai Clock Tower, High Court. Lastly you make a brief photo stop at Gateway of India, which was built to commemorate the visit of King George V in 1911. Thereafter return to the pier.

You also have an option of visiting the Prince of Wales Museum (remains closed on Mondays), it is an example of Gothic and Moorish architecture in the striking confluence of¬-styles that came to be known as Indo Saracenic. It boasts of a significant collection of Indus valley artifacts some of them dating back to more than 5000 years. Most impressive are the miniature paintings - nearly 2000 of them - from various stylistic schools of India. Drive back to the hotel.

EXCURSION TO ELEPHANTA CAVES

You depart from the hotel by coach for Gateway of India to board the motor launches for the Elephanta Caves (remains closed on Mondays) An hour-long boat ride takes you to the Elephanta Island. Once you arrive on the island you have the option to either take the mini train or walk approx. 15 mins to the base of the steps and climb approx. 120 steps to reach the caves. The caves date from the 8th century and have remarkable statues in Base-reliefs that unfolds a story carved in stone.

The carvings center on the life of Lord Shiva, The Destroyer, but the most impressive panel is that of the 1finity of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva; The Creator, The Preserver and The Destroyer. You return by the motor launch to Gateway of India and board the waiting coaches that will take you back to the hotel.

Aurangabad
-AJANTA & ELLORA CAVES (3days/2nights)

The city named after Aurangazeb and also a historical town that has a number of attractions including the famous Ellora and Ajanta caves nearby. The Bibi Ka Maqbara, built in black marble which is considered to be an imitation of Taj Mahal in Agra but is an excellent example of Persian architecture. Ellora is famous for its beautiful sculptures of 350 AD to 1000 AD based on the stories of Buddhism, Jainism and Hinduism.
The most incredible feature of these temples is that these have been chiseled downwards from the top out of a 2 km sheer rock escarpment. The pride within the complex is the gigantic Kailasha Temple, the world's largest monolithic sculpture. The enroute Devgiri Fort is an invincible fort built in the 12th century by Bhillama, king of the Yadav Dynasty. The Sultan of Delhi Mohammed Bin Tughlaq was so impressed by the fort that he decided to shift his capital from Delhi to Daulatabad. Ajanta is a world famous site where one can find the most beautiful paintings and sculptures in the caves of Satpura Hills. The caves were chiselled out by Buddhist monks between 200 BC and 650 AD as 'chaityas' (prayer halls) and 'viharas' (monasteries), and contain exquisite frescoes and fine sculptures. Each cave has its own story to tell.

Delhi-Agra-Jaipur

Visit the famous Thj Mahal built by Moghul Emperor Shahjehan in 1630 for his Queen Mumtaz Mahal. Later visit the Agra Fort containing the Pearl Mosque, the Halls of Public and Private Audience.


Jaipur (220 Kms / approx 5 hour drive from New Delhi)

Pink City of Jaipur. Enroute visit Fatehpur Sikri- the once capital of Mughal Emperor Akbar. Also visit fort Amer, City Palace,Hawa mahal and Jantar Mantar the observatory built by MaharajaJai Singh-II.
